The future is looking bright for Durham Bulls catcher Toby Hall. Named the MVP of the All-Star Futures Game and the only unanimous choice for the International League’s All-Star Team, the catcher is hovering near the top of the statistics heap in the IL.

In the Major League Baseball’s All-Star Futures Game, Hall hit a homerun and hit a single on which he later scored as part of the U.S. Team’s 5-1 victory over the World Team at SAFECO Field in Seattle. The best minor league players in the States vie with the best minor leaguers from abroad in the event.
Of the Futures experience, Hall said, “It’s a great feeling. You have all these jitters when you come

into a major league ballpark. Everyone should have that feeling. This is what I want to do with my life.”
Although his IL All-Star Team met with defeat in Indianapolis on July 11, Hall is still on top of his game. Batting .339 (2nd in the IL) with 16 homeruns (tied for 3rd in the IL), the catcher may follow fellow Bull Ben Sheets up to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays major league team before the 2001 season ends.
