Goodmon’s Idea Brings Film Festival Documentaries To UNC-TV
Capitol Broadcasting has been a major supporter of the DoubleTake Documentary Film Festival since the festival’s inception in 1998. Now CBC is helping some of the films find their way to the small screen.
DoubleTake prepared four 90-minute programs to air on UNC-TV. Entitled “Real Time,” the series features documentaries that have shown at the festival; nine films total will be shown in the programs. Festival Director Nancy Buirksi told N&O reporter Todd Lowry that, “the catalyst for ‘Real Time’ was Jim Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting, who came up with the idea and agreed to contribute funding if WUNC-TV’s editorial board approved the project.” Goodmon joined with Progress Energy and the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology and Science to sponsor the program, contributing $25,000 each to pay for the screenings and DoubleTake’s operating costs.
| “Real Time” airs on consecutive Saturday nights at 11:00pm. The first episode aired last Saturday, Jan. 20, with the following three programs airing Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10. “Real Time” will be carried by 11 UNC-TV affiliates throughout the state and will reach approximately 50,000 viewers. Film critic and Raleigh native, Godfrey Cheshire hosts “Real Time.” Buirski said, “We tried to put together an eclectic program. We wanted a program that highlighted some of the award-winning films but also one that showed the range and depth of the festival.” |

The 2001 DoubleTake Documentary Film Festival will take place May 3-6 at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. This will be the fourth year for the event.
