WRAL-TV5 Completes Construction On Its Fourth Habitat For Humanity Home |
On Saturday, March 25th, WRAL-TV in partnership with Goldston’s Building Supply and UNC-Ch students, faculty, and staff celebrated the completion of Halina Morman’s newly-constructed Habitat home and ten other Habitat homes in Chapel Hill.
The Morman dedication ceremony was part of Habitat’s Celebration 2000, a community-wide initiative to build more affordable housing including an eleven home neighborhood, New Homestead Place in Chapel Hill, NC. Also included in the $1.7 million initiative is the establishment of a $500,000 fund to help Habitat of Humanity of Orange County buy land and leverage partnerships to build more homes for families in need beyond the year 2000.
Construction on the Morman home began October 1999 and was completed January 22, 2000. The home was specifically designed to meet the needs of Ms. Morman who has suffered a stroke and her son, Jerrell, who is severely autistic.
WRAL’s Debra Morgan was the emcee for Celebration 2000 closing ceremony and welcomed the Habitat homeowners to their new community. For more information, contact Loretta Harper at (919) 821-8652.
