WRAL-TV Receives American Red Cross Recognition Award |
On Monday, November 22, 1999, the American Red Cross of Wake County recognized WRAL-TV and numerous other organizations for outstanding contributions during Hurricane Floyd relief efforts.
WRAL-TV5 received a commemorative plaque from the American Red Cross for its “Hurricane Floyd Community Relief” programming which consisted of a daylong telecast on September 21st, with updates on the hour, appeals during all newscasts, four half-hour specials at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and a series of public service announcements.
As a result, area businesses and viewers contributed $1,042,071 to assist the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army with Hurricane Floyd recovery efforts in North Carolina.
