WRAL-TV Plans to Build a New Habitat Home in 1999 |
WRAL-TV5, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, will build a Habitat home in Garner, NC. At last year’s NC State Fair, WRAL launched a “Welcome Home” contest and donated $1 to Habitat for Humanity of Wake County for every contest entry received. WRAL received a tremendous response and presented Habitat for Humanity of Wake County a check in the amount of $60,480–enough to build a home for a deserving family in Wake County. WRAL plans to have a groundbreaking ceremony for the family and begin building the home in March 1999. Jim Payne and Debra Morgan, two WRAL evening news anchors, will share news stories about the Habitat Home and follow its progress. WRAL-TV employees will also have an opportunity to get involved as volunteers to help build this Habitat home.
In 1998, WRAL-TV helped to build a Habitat Home in Durham, NC and Fayetteville, NC, helping two area families achieve their dreams. Executive Director of Durham County Habitat for Humanity Bob Calhoun said, “These homes provide much more than shelter and new home ownership; they foster stability and reinforce the commitment of residents to build a better community.”
