Durham Bulls First Homestand Features Opening Day, Fireworks and More
The Durham Bulls kick off their 2017 home schedule on Monday, April 10, when they open a seven-game homestand against the Charlotte Knights and Gwinnett Braves. Opening Day, two fireworks shows, $1 Concessions and a special Easter egg helicopter drop highlight the Opening Week festivities.
The team’s first home game of 2017 will take place on April 10 at 6:05 p.m. against the Charlotte Knights. Opening Day, presented by ARS/Rescue Rooter, will feature a postgame fireworks spectacular in celebration of a new season. Additionally, gates will open at 5 p.m. that evening, but a live pregame music performance will take place outside the ballpark at The Bullpen, with blues music provided by Music Maker Relief Foundation from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. When leaving the stadium fans will receive a 2017 Durham Bulls magnet schedule. Additionally that evening fans will be treated to a special entrance by Wool E. Bull, new on-field promotions and the homestand food special will be a Tater Tot Waffle.
The four-game series against the Chicago White Sox’ top affiliate continues on Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12, with both games commencing at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday’s contest will feature the first-ever Game Night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, as fans can purchase a $20 ticket that includes a seat, two drink vouchers (21 and older) and access to classic board games at the ballpark in a private setting.
The series with the Knights concludes on Thursday, April 13. All night long the DBAP will offer $1 Concessions, as Bright Leaf hot dogs, soda and popcorn are just a dollar. Furthermore, that night’s 7:05 p.m. game will play host to a Wine Tasting event, as fans can purchase a $20 ticket that will grant them exclusive access to a tasting event featuring Trinchero Wine (21 and older).
The homestand continues on Friday, April 14, when the Bulls open a three-game set with the Gwinnett Braves. That night’s game, presented by Hilton Durham, will be followed by the season’s first Friday Night Fireworks show, presented by bioMerieux.
On Saturday, April 15 the Bulls will celebrate Negro League Night in association with Jackie Robinson Day. For that evening’s 6:35 p.m. game the team will don throwback Negro League-style uniforms – all with the number 42 – to pay tribute to the legacy of Durham’s local Negro League stars.
The season’s first homestand comes to a close against the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate on Easter Sunday, April 16, when gates will open at 3 p.m. for that evening’s 5:05 p.m. contest. Children can participate in an Easter egg drop on the field that day, as thousands of candy-stuffed eggs will be dropped onto the DBAP outfield by helicopter beginning at 3:30 p.m. One side of the outfield will be designated for children ages 5-8, and the other side of the outfield will be designated for children ages 9-12. For children ages four and below, Easter eggs will be hand-placed in Wool E. World prior to the helicopter drop. The egg drop will be limited to 350 fans on a first-come, first-served basis, and fans wishing to participate in the egg drop can register in advance here. Following the game children can show off their speed, as Kids Run the Bases presented by Nature’s Twist.
The Durham Bulls open the 2017 International League season on Thursday, April 6, and host their first home game of 2017 on Monday, April 10 against the Charlotte Knights.
