95.7 FM That Station had some special furry guests in the studio last Friday, June 22, 2018. The four-legged friends stopped by as part of a big week in the station’s history – the conclusion of the naming contest.
Listeners submitted suggestions for a name for 95.7 FM That Station, and the winner would receive $1,000 for the local non-profit of his/her choice. Fans overwhelmingly responded to keep the “That Station” moniker. So station management drew a name from among the entrants who had suggested keeping that name.
Dee Dee Black won with Cause For Paws of North Carolina as her charity of choice. The announcement came on Tuesday, June 19.
WRAL-FM On-Air Traffic Reporter/Program Assistant Kristen Kokkelenberg told Capcom about the idea to bring representatives for the non-profit to the studio:
The winning charity for 95.7 That Station’s “Name That Station Contest” – was Cause For Paws so we decided to bring them in for an interview to learn more about what they do and where the winning money will be going.
So Nicole Kincaid came in – she’s their Program Director – she came in with two adorable puppies and we talked a bit about how they are unique because they take in dogs that are seniors (3 years or less to live approximately) & medical cases (dogs that have major health issues & would cost a lot of money to fix) – they are a foster home based shelter so they don’t have a location really, all their dogs stay at foster homes which is really great & better for the dog anyways.
We discussed their Thrift Stores in the area and how money from those helps them stay operating & profitable. The $1,000 is going to supplies & to help specifically one dog that has major dental issues.
Kincaid talked about all of this information in the studio, and That Station aired the interview that afternoon.
She brought two puppies, 7-week-old Australian Shepard and Boxer mixes, and showed them around the office. CBC Radio Sales Director Katie Phillips fell in love with one of the puppies, applied for adoption and will soon be taking him home. So the day was a double success for Cause For Paws.
“It was a really great way to spread what Cause For Paws does specifically and was a major hit around the office when she brought the puppies in!” said Kokkelenberg.
Thanks to 99.9 The Fan’s Justina Kruser, WRAL-FM’s Molly Donovan and WRAL-FM’s Kristen Kokkelenberg for this capcom scoop & for these capcom photos.
