The talented team of photographers working on the Bull City Summer project has captured some time-lasting images from the early part of the 2013 Durham Bulls season and they are now available for view on WRALSportsFan.com.
The Bull City Summer project was created to document all 72 home games and give fans a behind-the-scenes look around the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Fifteen writers, editors and visual artists, including photographers Leah Sobsey, Frank Hunter, Kate Joyce and Ivan Weiss, represented here, are collaborating on the project. Work from acclaimed visiting artists Alec Soth, Hank Willis Thomas, and Hiroshi Watanabe will be coming later in the summer.
The creators of Bull City Summer explain that spending the summer at a ballpark is not necessarily about the game of baseball, but rather encompasses a spiritual experience. The old saying ‘a photograph is worth a thousand words’ sums up the importance of this project’s photography.
The slideshows will be updated regularly as the season continues through the early parts of September.
