The lawn out front of WRAL-TV & FOX 50’s studios on Western Blvd is now filled with bright blue and silver pinwheels spinning in the wind. Employees from both Triangle television stations as well as CBC Corporate came together on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, to bring attention to child abuse prevention by planting 2,000 pinwheels for Pinwheels for Prevention.
Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina put together the annual event to honor Child Abuse Prevention Month, and CBC participated for the first time at our Western Blvd location. Employees and tenants at American Tobacco will come together on Sunday, April 7th, to plant pinwheels at CBC’s Durham location as well.
“We are thrilled that Capitol Broadcasting is planting a pinwheel garden to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month and create awareness of the role we all have in ensuring all children’s healthy development and growth,” said PCANC VP for External Relations Maureen McKeon. “The pinwheel is the symbol of child abuse prevention – representing the bright, successful future all children deserve, and they really do get attention when they are spinning and shining in the sun. They are going to look awesome on Western Blvd.”

The pinwheels will be on display for the next two weeks.
FOX 50 VP & GM Tommy Schenck is a long-time member of the Prevent Child Abuse NC Board.
The national Prevent Child Abuse organization will be planting a pinwheel garden in New York City’s Central Park later this month.
