Raleigh Seniors Enjoy 66th Annual Golden Years Celebration, Sponsored by CBC

Capitol Broadcasting Company proudly sponsored the 66^th Annual Golden Years Holiday Celebration on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The event, which CBC began in the WRAL studios over six decades ago, took place in a packed Raleigh Convention Center ballroom downtown.

Seniors from the City of Raleigh’s Golden Years Clubs came for breakfast, musical entertainment and dancing.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” WRAL-TV Anchor Renee Chou told the crowd.

Chou and fellow WRAL-TV Anchors Ken Smith and Brian Shrader emceed the morning event.

“It feels like the holiday spirit in this room,” said Shrader.

Raleigh Mayor Pro Tem Jonathan Melton welcomed the Golden Years club members, which total at least 2,000 active adults.

“The City of Raleigh is proud to provide our citizens with opportunities,” he said of programs like Golden Years.

Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Director Stephen Bentley challenged attendees to “try something new in 2024” because of all Raleigh Parks has to offer.

“You all make this work we do on a daily basis fun,” Active Adult Program Director Allie Crawford told the crowd.

And she also thanked Capitol Broadcasting, telling attendees, “We could not do this event without them.”

She saluted the Raleigh Parks staff as well for coordinating the event and making it happen.

Oakwood Waits sang carols during the breakfast and then after the welcomes and several door prize drawings, a slate of entertainers took the stage for the program. Razzmatazz Senior Dance Troupe did a few Rockette-style numbers, Capitol Ambassadors sang a few oldies, and then The Legacy Motown Revue got the crowd up on the dance floor.

Excerpts from the program will be broadcast on WRAL-TV twice over the season. A Golden Years Holiday Special airs on Sunday, December 24^th at 3:00pm and Sunday December 31^st and 1:00pm on WRAL-TV.
