You know that feeling when you jump to say, “yes,” and then get hold of your faculties again and think, “What in the world have I done?” MIX 101.5’s Carpool Casanova had that very experience this week when he enthusiastically agreed to sing the National Anthem for the Durham Bulls game on Friday, April 5, 2024. Thankfully, a group of young singers jumped in with a huge “we’ve got your back.”
“It’s crazy how it happened,” said MIX Morning’s Bryan Lord, aka the Carpool Casanova.
The scheduled Friday National Anthem performer fell through, which Lord swears he had nothing to do with. DBBC Asst General Manager Chrystal Rowe reached out to Lord to ask if the Carpool Casanova would be interested in singing it.
“Highly excitable me said yes,” he told CapCom. “Rational me, 24 hours later, asked for help.”
And then came the offer of an assist from some special singers.
“Luckily my fellow Apexian Jenni Soenstrom at Apex Friendship Elementary called us and said her kids know the song and could sing it with me,” said Lord. “Game on! Time to show what The Peak of Good Singing can do.”
Lord rehearsed with the choir earlier this week and the collaboration is ready for their duo debut.
The Durham Bulls take on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in their first Friday night home game of the 2024 season. Gates open at 5:30pm, with game time at 6:35pm. Tickets are still available.
Come see Carpool Casanova and the Apex Friendship Elementary chorus sing the anthem, the Bulls play and the post-game fireworks!
