American Tobacco Duck Race To Expand to Benefit Three Groups Focus on Inter-Faith Food Shuttle |
Two of last year’s most popular events in downtown Durham are joining forces in 2010. The Great American Tobacco Duck Race, which has become an annual event, and FOX 50’s Family Fest, new last year but sure to become a fall regular, will take place together on Saturday, October 2, 2010.
During the weeks before the big race, capcom is featuring all three of the non-profits which will benefit from the event.
For our third & last profile, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
Feeding the Triangle
This year the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is sharing the wealth at the Great American Tobacco Duck Race. Not an uncommon position for the organization that shares food to those in need of the Triangle, people of all backgrounds and ages. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle gathers food that hasn’t been used and makes sure it goes to fill stomachs.
The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle works to keep food from going to waste and keep food on the tables of hungry Triangle citizens. |
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is the innovative leader in pioneering solutions to address the problems of hunger and food insecurity in the Greater Triangle. Through BackPack Buddies providing food to low-income children over the weekend, perishable food recovery from grocery and big box stores, and nutrition education programs, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is creating a hunger-free community. Proceeds will be used to help provide food and nutrition services to some of the 98,000 children who receive free or reduced school lunches in the Greater Triangle.
For the past several years, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has teamed with American Tobacco on the Great American Duck Race. CBC’s MIX 101.5 is also a big fan of the IFFS, holding an annual Backpack Buddies food drive. This year’s drive took place a few weeks ago and brought in over 7,000 lbs of food and over $33,000 in monetary donations.
Now CBC offers another way to help the IFFS. Duck purchases benefiting IFFS can be made several ways:
- Online – Buy your duck(s) online and then claim your duck by calling Melissa Hartzell at (919) 250-0043 and bring receipt to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh, or Durham Service Center, 1720 Guess Road – Suite 14, Durham, on Aug 9-Sept 23, M-F 9am-5pm or bring your receipt on the day of the event, Oct 2, between noon-3:30pm.
