The Durham Bulls are helping the NC Central Sound Machine raise funds to go to Pasedena to march in the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade. |
The Durham Bulls have announced plans to help the North Carolina Central University Marching Sound Machine raise funds to make their trip to the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade. The band will perform live during the fireworks show at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday, September 4, 2010, as fans are encouraged to text a donation to help the musicians pay for their trip to Pasadena.
“North Carolina Central University has always been a wonderful partner of ours and we are happy to be in a position to help them achieve their goal,” Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said, “Being asked to participate in the Rose Bowl parade is an honor and we hope to help them get there. This is a great opportunity for the Eagles and for Durham.”
Being asked to perform in the Tournament of Roses parade is one of the top three honors a marching band can get, along with an invitation to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Trophy given each year to the top college or university band in the nation. The total cost for the trip could be upwards of $500,000 meaning every effort to help the band raise funds is appreciated.
