WMYT’s mascot, TV12, rides through the parade in a convertible. |
On Saturday, September 5, 2009, Charlotte’s WJZY and WMYT My TV12 participated in the 17th Annual Matthews Alive Labor Day Weekend Parade, the largest event of its kind in the Southeast.
The parade had over 105 participants and more than 25,000 spectators.
Joining the two station vehicles as part of our entourage were two convertibles…one with Eric Thomas, Chief Meteorologist for WJZY’s 10pm newscast…and the other with WMYT’s costumed character mascot, TV12.
Both were well received by the crowd as the vehicles passed through town handing out station cups to those lining the route. Eric Thomas also handed out autographed cards.

The parade is tied to the Matthews Alive Festival held each year in the town of Matthews, a suburb of Charlotte. The 4-day festival draws crowds of more than 200,000 to see crafts, hear music, ride rides and eat lots of great food.
WJZY and WMYT are also proud sponsors of the Kids Connection area of the festival.
Thanks to WJZY’s Angela Golden for this capcom story & these capcom photos.
