The Team at 99.9 FM The Fan has commentated the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, but the staffers got a chance to feel both emotions at once themselves on the hockey rink.
Employees from 99.9 FM The Fan recently took on the Carolina Hurricanes front office staff in a friendly, but fierce match of wheelchair hockey. The Fan fell in defeat, but ultimately the North Carolina Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (NCEWHA) was the big winner for the event.
The charity game was part of the 2009 Carolina PowerHockey Invitational, a tournament among 4 NCEWHA teams. The battle between The Fan & the Canes office staffers took place between the final two games on the Sunday of the tourney weekend.
The Canes staffers came out victorious, 3-1, but The Fan team, led by on-air talents Mike Maniscalco and Mark Thomas, lobbed accusations of cheating and referee tampering. But regardless of the result, the afternoon was a fun event for all.
