Capitol Broadcasting Company Supports Effort to Bring Pan Am Games to the Triangle
CBC announces that it will take a lead role in the effort to bring the 2007 Pan Am Games to the Triangle. As part of its commitment, CBC has agreed to fund the executive director position for the initial 18 month period needed to put together the bid information for the US Olympic Committee.
This effort reinforces the spirit of regionalism encouraged by Jim Goodmon. CBC was the lead corporate sponsor for the 1987 US Olympic Festival held in Triangle NC area, and has taken a prominent role in the upcoming 1999 Special Olympic World Games. “I am a big promoter of regionalism and this event will bring us all closer together.” Goodmon said. “We can do anything we want when we pull together.”
The bid deadline is September 1998. Bids are being submitted by the Triangle area, NC; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; and Miami, FL to the US Olympic Committee. The Committee will review each bid, and nominate one of the cities to the Pan Am Games organizers in the Spring of 1999. Pan Am organizers will announce the city that will host the games in 2002.
