Barbara Goodmon Receives YWCA Human Services Award |
Barbara Lyons Goodmon has spent nearly 30 years working on behalf of needy Triangle residents. On Thursday, November 12, 1998 she was recognized for these efforts during The 16th Annual YWCA Academy of Women held at the North Raleigh Hilton, Raleigh, NC.

Some of Mrs. Goodmon’s achievements that were noted include: initiating the Salvation Army’s Christmas Committee, advocating for better conditions and quality treatment for the mentally ill, working with human services and local government officials in identifying an appropriate shelter for the homeless, and organizing the Wide-A-Wake Community Forum to address Workfirst, homelessness, substance abuse, the indigent and uninsured, family violence, youth programs and funding.
Mrs. Goodmon serves on the Board of Wake County Human Services, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Board of Visitors for Officers School, the Advisory Board of Samarkand Manor, Meredith College’s Board of Visitors and Board of Trustees, the Achievement School’s Board of Trustees, Ravenscroft’s Board of Trustees, and the Raleigh fine Arts Society. She is currently working to establish the Healing Place, a substance abuse treatment center for the homeless.
