WRAL-FM Listeners Rise to the Special Olympics’ Challenge |
On Friday, November 13, Bill & Schatzie kicked-off a weekend drive to help raise volunteers for the 1999 Special Olympics World Games that will be coming to the Triangle, NC in the summer of 1999. This will be the largest sporting event in the World that year. CBC and MIX 101.5 are Gold Sponsors of the Games, and are hosting the basketball venue at the Dean Smith Center. Part of our commitment to the games is to help raise volunteers to staff the different venues.
Throughout the morning show, listeners got to hear first hand from World Games organizers, athletes, and previous volunteers about the Games, the types of jobs they can volunteer for, and how they can get their neighborhoods, businesses, churches, etc. involved. Over the course of the weekend, MIX aired special Olympic vignettes 2-3 times per hour, reminding listeners of the upcoming needs. Volunteers from Special Olympics and mix employees answered phones. MIX listeners came through and requested over 2800 applications (the original goal was 1000). Now, Mix needs to get them back. Currently, it is estimated that there are about 90,000 applications out in the community waiting to be returned. So don’t delay, mail yours back today!
