Experience NC from the Mountains to the Coast on a Bicycle |
Cycle North Carolina, organized by North Carolina Amateur Sports, will begin on Saturday, October 3 in Murphy, NC and end on Sunday, October 17 in Manteo, NC. Riders can choose to ride in this cross-state recreational bike tour for the full 14-day option, a six-day option, or a 1-day option. Capitol Network’s North Carolina News Network (NCNN) is the signature sponsor.
This 14 day quest will begin alongside the majestic skylines, waterfalls and streams of the Blue Ridge Mountains, continue into the rolling hills, red clay and hardwoods that make up the NC heartland, and finish along the coastal plains, passing numerous lighthouses and the ocean. There will be plenty of opportunities to visit attractions along the way.
Close to 1000 cyclists are expected to participate in this adventure, which will showcase North Carolina–its topography, its culture, and its interesting attractions. But be prepared if you want to attend as cyclists are expected to cover between 50 to 70 miles per day. As a bonus, riders will have infield access to the Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Friday, October 8!
Reporting for NCNN are Liz and Jim Zearfoss from Cary, NC. Liz and Jim will be pedaling the whole journey from Murphy to Manteo. They have been tour cyclists since 1994, doing several long bike rides in Virginia and Vermont. They will be giving audio updates of their journey on a regular basis. You can follow along through NCNN’s web site: http://www.ncnn.com/idcyclenc.html
