Fred Fletcher, Former CBC President and WRAL General Manager, Has Died After A Long Illness
CBC Is Sad To Note The Passing Of A Raleigh Icon, Fred Fletcher, Sr.
Fred Fletcher was the president of Capitol Broadcasting and the General Manager for WRAL-TV until his retirement in 1975, he served on the Raleigh City Council, and he was a longtime chairman of the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Commission.
Fred Fletcher will be remembered most fondly as a broadcaster on WRAL-AM and his show “Tempis Fugit”, where audiences knew Fred as the Fairy Tale Man.
Fred Fletcher died Saturday, January 8 at Steward Health Center after a long illness. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 12, 2000, at 11 am at the Ridge Road Baptist Church. The public is invited to attend a celebration of Fred’s life on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 from 6 to 9 pm at the First United Pentecostal Church, 2312 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, NC.
