Presented annually, the NCEITA 21 Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of some of the leading companies and individuals in the IT industry. Less than two dozen awards are presented, with a small handful going to individuals, putting Lawrence in honored company. 2001 marks the seventh year the awards have been presented.
In naming Lawrence as the Media Award recipient, NCEITA stated his “enthusiasm about technology and passion for his work come through in every piece he does for WRAL. His deep knowledge of the triangle’s IT industry has helped bring the stories of start-ups and

larger companies to television. Tom is very effective in showing the true effects of technology and the impact it can have on our lives and on the North Carolina economy. He has been covering technology for over 6 years and was the first full-time technology reporter in North Carolina.”
Ernst and Young conducted the 2001 award process, and a committee selected the winners. Last year, NCEITA named CBC Communications Company of the Year and awarded CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon the Outstanding Achievement Award.
