The 2001 We Build People fundraising campaign for the Capital Area YMCA drew to a close in February, coming in well over its goal of $2,010,000. CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon, chair of the 2001 campaign, announced the total raised, $2,096,648.00, at the Capital Area YMCA Annual Celebration on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Embassy Suites near the airport.
“This is an exciting total that reflects thousands of children and families whose lives will be impacted through YMCA programs and services in the months ahead,” said Goodmon.

CBC and WRAL-TV, through their Community Fund for the Triangle Community Foundation, are Distinguished Benefactors for the 2001 campaign, joining 24 other organizations in donating $10,000 or more to fund YMCA outreach. Plates were presented to each organization at the banquet, as well as to the 390 benefactors who pledge $5,000 or more for financial assistance and outreach programs.
For the first time, the YMCA of Greater Durham and the Garner Road YMCA joined the Capital Area YMCA in their We Build People campaign. Over 5,700 children and families will receive assistance because of the funds raised.
Goodmon has also agreed to sign on to another term as chair of the We Build People Association campaign. He will work to help the YMCA achieve its fundraising goal for 2002.
Since 1993, the We Build People Campaign has helped provide financial assistance to thousands of children, adults, and families who could not otherwise afford YMCA programs and services. With this annual event, the Capital Area YMCA celebrated 145 years of YMCA service to the Triangle community.
