The long awaited opening of the Streets At Southpoint Mall in Durham over the weekend also brought the unveiling of the Children’s Tile Wall, a fundraising project for the kids at Duke Children’s Hospital. MIX 101.5/WRAL-FM joined the two entities in presenting the wall created from the work of hundreds of Triangle children.
MIX 101.5, Duke Children’s Hospital and the Streets at Southpoint began selling tiles and sponsoring painting parties last October. So far, 824 have been completed and are on permanent display in the Food Court area of the new 140 store mall.
The unveiling took place on Saturday, March 9th, with MIX 101.5 Early Morning Show Co-host Bill Jordan on hand for the festivities. Duke Children’s Hospital’s Ken Baroff and The Streets at Southpoint’s Marketing Manager Jeff Johnson also participated in the ceremony. All of the families who had painted tiles were invited to the event, and over 600 different families attended.
Over $40,000 has been raised through the project thusfar. Tiles for the next portion of the wall are now on sale; for more information call 667-2563. The next addition the Children’s Tile Wall will be unveiled in March 2003.
