CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon made the announcement about Davis’s CBC position on Thursday, March 28, saying, “It is great to get Will back into the fold. He brings great experience managing WB and UPN stations.”
No stranger to CBC, Davis worked at WRAL-TV for a decade beginning in 1978. He began at the Raleigh station as a reporter and photographer and moved on to produce PM Magazine, supervise the Weather Center and became Program Manager. He continued as a CBC employee through 1991, working at and eventually managing WTTV-TV in Indianapolis, a property of CBC at that time.
“On the personal side, it is great to be back ‘home” with the Capitol Broadcasting family,’ said Davis. “Professionally it is both exciting and humbling to face the challenge of operating two emerging network stations in a sophisticated market like Charlotte.”
He continued, “UPN and The WB speak directly to the under-35 age group and we have an unprecedented opportunity to build viewership and brand loyalty with a generation that has defected in large numbers to cable television and the Internet.”
Davis comes to Raleigh from Winston-Salem where he served as General Manager of WXLV-TV and WUPN-TV and had been Group Manager and Regional Manager for The Sinclair Broadcast Group since 1998. In addition to his previous experience at CBC, Davis has managed stations in Michigan and Iowa. Davis received an AB in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969.
Davis replaces Linda Sherman as General Manager of WJZY and WWWB.
