WRAL-TV will once again host an annual telethon for United Cerebral Palsy of North Carolina. This will be the 32nd annual pairing of UCP with WRAL for the broadcast of StarFest. WRAL-TV will broadcast the telethon live on Sunday, April 21, 2002, from 1:00-7:00pm.
The event serves as the major yearly fundraiser. This year’s live entertainment will come from Carrabba’s Grill in North Raleigh, with pianist Thom Wilkinson and the Red Wigglers. Viewers can call in and pledge as WRAL Anchors emcee the telethon from the WRAL studios where the volunteer phone bank will be located.
UCP clients, volunteers and staff will talk with anchors on the air, and informational features about the services UCP of NC provides in early childhood development and in assisted living and residential services for the developmentally disabled.
As a special treat, retired WRAL-TV anchor and local celebrity Charlie Gaddy will host from 5:00-7:00pm with current WRAL anchor Pam Saulsby and Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel.
WRAL-TV and UCP of NC usually pair for StarFest in late January. The event was delayed this year to accommodate the prolonged football schedule caused by the terrorist attacks on 9-11.
