WRAL Kicks Off “School Stuff” Campaign |
WRAL-TV, in partnership with Communities in Schools (CIS), is kicking off the 2nd annual “School Stuff” campaign tomorrow, Thursday, August 1, 2002. At a launch breakfast yesterday morning at the television studios, CIS coordinators from a 10-county area, CIS community volunteers, and community partners Golden Corral, UNC Healthcare, and Rex Healthcare gathered to celebrate the now annual event.
The mission of the campaign is to help give every student a chance to start school with the basic necessities for a successful school year. The “School Stuff” campaign strives to collect school supplies for students that do not have these necessary tools. The goal for this year’s campaign is to serve 5,000 students in the WRAL viewing area.
Golden Corral, UNC Healthcare and Rex Healthcare have also joined WRAL-TV and CIS in the effort, offering their places of business as collection sites. For a complete list of drop-off sites, visit the list on WRAL.com.
WRAL-TV and CIS are asking the public to drop off new school supplies. Items needed include notebook paper, pens and pencils, crayons, book bags, folders, binders and any other item that will help prepare a child for the school year.
Participating locations will be accepting school supplies throughout the month of August. Public service announcements promoting the campaign will air on WRAL-TV throughout the month, as well as special news stories about the collections to date.
WRAL-TV5 and Communities In Schools of NC thanks its community partners at Golden Corral, UNC Healthcare and Rex Healthcare for their support of this project. Also, special thanks extended to Metro Productions, Beazer Homes, and Longistics Transportation for their in-kind support.
