NASCAR Driver Visits Pelicans |
NASCAR Winston Cup driver Rusty Wallace entertained fans and threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans home game against the Kinston Indians on Tuesday, August 6, 2002. Even a one hour rain delay didn’t stop the NASCAR great from entertaining the dedicated Pelican fans.
Wallace took questions from the fans before the game. Several fans won the right to ask their question of Wallace through a radio station promotion. Those lucky winners also got to watch the game in a luxury suite with Wallace.
Wallace appeared as part of a promotion by NASCAR’s Winner’s Circle program. Winning drivers from the previous year’s winning season work in conjunction with individual speedways to help promote their upcoming events. He appeared on behalf of the Darlington Raceway in preparation for the Mountain Dew Southern 500 weekend, August 30 through September 1st in Darlington, SC.
The 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion has won 54 race. He got his first Winston Cup victory at the Valleydale 500 on April 6, 1986 in Bristol, TN, in his 72nd start. Wallace is currently fourth in the Winston Cup standings.
