WRAL-FM Provides Place For Mrs. Raleigh In City Parade |
Mrs. Raleigh 2003, Melanie McNeely, will ride on WRAL-FM’s float since the city would not allow her one of her own. |
Mrs. Raleigh may have been told by the city that she could not have a convertible in the annual Christmas Parade, but she will be waving from atop the entry from WRAL-FM. Live on the Bill & Sheri Show, WRAL-FM/MIX 101.5’s morning duo invited 28-year-old Melanie McNeely to join them in riding in the parade on Saturday, November 23, 2002.
Parade organizers refused McNeely her own car as Mrs. Raleigh 2003 because she is married. The merchants association limits individual convertibles/cars to those sponsored by the Miss North Carolina and Miss America organizations. Those events are open only to single women, and only women with those title crowns can have their own car.
McNeely won the Mrs. Raleigh title earlier this year, finishing first in a group of 26 others. She has two children.
