WRAL-TV To Once Again Light Tower For Holidays |
Tonight, Monday, December 2, 2002, WRAL-TV will continue a tradition that is over four decades old, the lighting of the TV tower for the holidays. WRAL will flip the switch just before 6:00pm, ending the 5:30pm newscast.
Revelers will be treated to festive music by The Carolina Harmony Chorus. Triangle citizens can gather at the fountain area in front of the television station to watch the event in person. The 2,890 colored lights and three 5-foot stars will light up along with various Christmas lights around the property.
The tower stands as a 300-foot tall Christmas tree, topped with the “5” logo. The beacon stands atop the WRAL-TV studio building on Western Blvd and can be seen for miles around through the New Year.
