Artis Receives StateNet Award For Cultural Diversity Series |
NCNN’s Sondra Artis won accolades for her Cultural Diversity series. |
The North Carolina News Network (NCNN) Anchor/Reporter Sondra Artis recently received a StateNets Award for Best Feature. NCNN News Director Ellen Reinhardt accepted the award on Artis’ behalf at the National Association of State Radio Networks in November.
Artis received the award for her ten-part series “Cultural Crossroads,” which focused on North Carolina’s growing immigrant population. She examined those coming to the Tar Heel state and what this influx means to those already here.
“The series looked at the challenges presented (for the immigrants and the established communities)-as well as the opportunities and rich diversity it brings,” said Artis. She traveled to several parts of the state, visiting Latino stores, a Chinese herbal medicine/acupuncture shop, a Thai Buddhist temple, an Ethiopian restaurant and cultural center and neighboring Indian and Pakistani immigrant-owned businesses.
“Doing the series was very rewarding for me,” commented Artist. “It allowed me to meet North Carolina’s newest residents-and introduce them to NCNN’s statewide listening audience.”
StateNets, formerly known as National Association of State Radio Networks, represents 27 individual state radio networks statewide.
