FOX50 & MIX Seek America’s Next Idol |
FOX50 and MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM are joining forces to try to send the next American Idol to a national audition in New York City. The pair will host an audition at the Cary Towne Center on Saturday, August 16, 2003, to select one young hopeful to receive a guaranteed audience with the producers of American Idol 3.
MIX 101.5 Afternoon Host Jim Kelly will emcee the local competition. Doors open at 9am with the competition beginning at 1pm. Exactly 150 candidates will be selected that day to participate on the basis of meeting all rules and eligibilities on a first-come first-served basis.
Contestants must be 16-24 years of age and be permanent residents of NC. Official rules and entry forms are available online on FOX50’s website.
Contestants will be paired in groups of ten. Group-by-group, one-by-one, each contestant will be given 1 minute to sing a song of his or her choice a cappella. One person from each group will be chosen for the finals…15 finalists in all.
The 15 finalists then compete head-to-head. Each will be given one minute to sing a song of his or her choice a cappella. One person will be named the local FOX 50 Idol Audition winner. Second and third place runners-up will be selected as well.
The winner will fly to New York for a guaranteed audition with the producers of American Idol 3, which premiers in January 2004 on FOX. The national audition in New York is slated for Monday, August 25. The winner will also receive a complete makeover from Iatria Day Spa, roundtrip airfare for two on American Airlines and hotel accommodations.
Auditions are open to the public and a large crowd is expected to flood the mall to watch the next would-be American Idol take the stage.
