McGuire To Serve As Officer on Raleigh Visitors Board |
AJFF Executive Director Tom McGuire |
The Raleigh City Council recently appointed AJFF Executive Director Tom McGuire to a second term on the Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, a term during which he will serve as Secretary-Treasurer. The term runs for three years.
Others appointed to the Board include R. Doyle Parrish of the Summit Hospitality Group, who will serve as Chairman, and Brent Jayes of Creative Visions, who will serve as Vice Chairman.
CBC VP of Community Relations Paul Pope also serves as a member of the GRCVB Board.
“The Raleigh CVB promotes Raleigh as both a tourist and a business destination,” explained McGuire. “The CVB works closely with the ‘hospitality industry’ (hotels and restaurants) in trying to bring more people to our area for overnight (and multi-night) stays.
“There is a heavy emphasis on sporting events as a means of accomplishing this goal, but the CVB also recognizes the value of cultural and arts events in generating visits to the city. As you can imagine, I am especially interested in this aspect of the CVB’s operations, and hope to increase awareness of the arts as an ‘economic engine’.
“I have really enjoyed serving on the GRCVB Board,” he concluded. “It gives me a great perspective on Raleigh.”
McGuire recently announced that he will step down as Executive Director of the AJFF at the end of the year and plans to start his own consulting business.
