Bulls Will Sell Sod From DBAP Field |
In preparation for a new field at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park next season, the Durham Bulls today announced the sale of 2′ x 2′ sections of the current field to the general public following the conclusion of the 2003 season. Pieces of the field may be purchased for $10, with proceeds benefiting the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League.
“We’ve been playing on this field for nine years,” Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said, “We’ve had quite a few young stars play here, so we wanted to give our fans a chance to own a piece of Durham Bulls history.”
Those former players include Major League All-Stars such as Andruw Jones, Juan Guzman, Wilson Alvarez, Derek Jeter, Adam Dunn, Kevin Millwood, Norm Charlton, Jim Thome, Randy Winn and Rocco Baldelli. Other former stars include Wes Helms, Damian Moss, Mark DeRosa, Pat Borders, Bubba Trammell, Toby Hall, Carl Crawford, Aubrey Huff and Cory Lidle.
Along with the $10 sections of sod available, fans may purchase large quantities for an entire lawn. The cost would be $2,200 for 1/4 acre and $3,000 for a 1/3 acre. Durham Bulls Head Groundskeeper James Simpson believes the sod would make a beautiful lawn.
“It’s a good, Hybrid Bermuda Grass,” he said, “It has a very fine leaf texture and a smooth, even color with good aesthitic appeal.”
Anyone interested in purchasing a piece of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park Field, which will be available in mid-September, can reserve their piece by calling the Durham Bulls Box Office at (919) 956-BULL.
