Pelicans End 2003 Season

Pelicans
Fans who won bidding on Jersey’s Friday night were invited on the field Monday to get their shirt off a Pelicans’ back.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans closed out their 2003 Season on Labor Day with a 5-0 loss to the Kinston Indians. With the September 1st win, the Indians were able to clinch the Second Half Championship of the Southern Division and claim their spot in the 2003 Post Season.

The game was scoreless until a Jason Cooper homerun in the top of the fourth inning gave the Indians a 1-0 lead. The score would remain 1-0 until the Indians touched up Manny Acosta and the Pelicans for four runs in top of the eighth. Two of the four runs, came on bases loaded walks, while the other two scored on singles by JJ Sherrill and Willy Taveras.

Dan Meyer (3-6) went 7.0 innings for the loss, allowing just one run on three hits. Dan Denham (5-5) picked up the win as he went 6.2 innings shutout innings, while allowing just seven hits.
