On Friday, May 14, 2004, CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon received the 2004 North Carolina Distinguished Broadcaster Award from the Broadcasting and Cinema Advisory Committee at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The unanimous choice for the 2004 honor, Goodmon was nominated by industry professionals and academic leaders in the field.
Goodmon received the award as part of the graduation ceremony for the Broadcasting and Cinema Department at UNC-G. Lee Kinard, Chair of the Broadcasting and Cinema Advisory Committee, made the presentation saying, “. . . Goodmon remains an articulate voice of conscience for localism and service to the public in an era characterized by media centralization and driven by free market forces oblivious to broadcasting’s traditional, essential role of serving “the public interest, convenience, and necessity.”
Kinard called Goodmon a role model for graduates: “What he represents today is what we hope our students become tomorrow.”
Each year UNC-G’s Broadcasting and Cinema Advisory Committee presents the Distinguished Broadcaster Award to a North Carolinian who has an exceptional individual achievement and/or a career profile of excellence in broadcasting.
