FOX 50 (WRAZ) is excited to announce a special programming presentation: back-to-back airings of each episode of “FOX 50 Gimme the Mike!” this Sunday, August 22, 2004, beginning at 3:30p.m. See the competition from start to finish – performances by each of the 25 “FOX 50 Gimme the Mike!” contestants, the winning performances of each of the finalists, the wildcard winner, and the culminating 1-hour show finale.
“FOX 50 Gimme the Mike!” is the television singing competition that featured weekly performances by 25 local contestants selected from open auditions held in early April. Five finalists were selected by the show’s judges and were joined by an audience wild card pick to compete in the live prime time finale for the grand prize. Each contestant was given the opportunity to prepare for the show, working with the show’s producers, a voice coach and image consultant.
FOX 50 executives were pleased with the success of the show and the strong viewer response. “This show is about more than just crowning a winner, or even about giving some very talented local singers the media exposure they deserve. This show is setting a precedent for an enjoyable family experience, and this broadcast is a benchmark for the kind of quality production local television can deliver,” said FOX 50 General Manager Tommy Schenck.
“FOX 50 Gimme the Mike!” was hosted by Jim Kelly from Mix 101.5, WRAL-FM, and North Carolina actress/comedian Debra Terry. The “FOX 50 Gimme the Mike!” judges were Dick Hodgin of Osceola Studios, Brian Dawson from K97.5, WQOK, and Faye Parker, Clay Aiken’s mother.
