WRAL-TV Reporter Julia Lewis and News Photographer Chad Flowers recently received first prize in a military reporting contest sponsored by the Military Reporters and Editors Association. The pair won in the Broadcast/Reporting/Overseas/Local category, and they were the only broadcasters to win in their entire competition.

Their entry, “Waiting for War: Stories of the 82nd Airborne Division,” was cited as a series that “eloquently captured the stories of the men and women of the 82nd in Kuwait while they were getting ready for deployment to Iraq.” Their story covered the preparations for war by the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg.

Faculty members from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University judged the competition.
