The final 24 contestants on American Idol have been selected by the judges, and Gimme the Mike! has followed suit. The names of the lucky 20 finalists for FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike! will be announced on March 1, 2005.
Audition for the local singing competition took place on Saturday and Sunday, February 12 & 13, at the Triangle Town Center in Raleigh. Over 600 people auditioned. Line-up began at 6am and within the hour over 200 people were already in queue to sing their hearts out for the judges. Hopefuls sang a wide variety of songs ranging from rap to country to pop to some songs from a category all their own.
FOX 50 will reveal the final 20 to the public on Monday, March 1st. The finalists will then begin working with Gimme the Mike! producers on their music selections, fine-tuning their style and preparing for their television debut.
Tapings for the first four episodes of Gimme the Mike! will be held on Wednesday, April 13th and Thursday, April 14th at the BTI Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh. Times will be announced shortly. All seating is free, but limited. Stay tuned to FOX 50’s website, www.fox50.com, for details on how to be a part of the audience.
FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike! premieres on Thursday, April 21st at 7:30pm.
Now in its second season, Gimme the Mike! is the Triangle’s own version of American Idol. Twenty finalists compete in groups of five, and judges select one from each group to advance. Viewers will select a Wild Card for each evening and then vote after a special Wild Card episode to send one to the finals. The winner will receive a prize package including a trip to New York City to audition for music industry executives.
