Capitol Broadcasting Company believes in supporting the community, helping jump start many groups and events that go on to become thriving contributors to the Triangle. One such opportunity will be coming to fruition this Sunday: a performance by the John Brown Quintet and the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble.
CBC has sponsored the annual MLK Holiday performance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. All-Children’s Choir concert since the first concert three years ago. In 2005, the newly-formed Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble joined the choir for the performance. WRAL-TV and the A.J. Fletcher Foundation also sponsor this annual event.
John Brown formed the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble especially for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Concert, held in January. He also serves as director. The group performed together for the first time at the January 2005 concert, with plans to continue performing throughout the year.
The John Brown Quintet and Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble will be making a debut performance together at the Carolina Theatre in Durham on Sunday, March 20th at 4pm. All proceeds from the concert will go to the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.
Tickets cost $25 and $20. For more information or to reserve a seat, call The Carolina Theatre Box Office at (919) 560-3030.
