Tuesday, June 7, 2005, was a record breaking day in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball Club and their fans succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record for “Most Groucho Marx Glasses Worn at the Same Time.” The fans saw the Pelicans take the Lynchburg Hillcats 4-0 as they shattered the World Record.
While the Pelicans added to their lead in the 3rd inning, the fans were busy at work in the stands, breaking the World Record for “Most Groucho Marx Glasses Worn at the Same Time.” 1,827 fans simultaneously donned the funny looking glasses for 15 minutes, nearly doubling the previous record of 937.
Students and staff from East Lansing High School, Michigan set the former record on May 23, 2003. The first 2,500 fans at Tuesday’s game were guaranteed to receive a set of glasses for the World Record attempt. Guinness has approved the record attempt, and the Pelicans staff filmed and took pictures of the attempt as proof of the record. Fans signed their name in a log book as an official participant in the record-breaking attempt.
