NCSU Player Joins the Pelicans Squad
|
NCSU’s Joey Devine will don a Pelicans uniform this summer. |
In a coincidental synergy of CBC divisions, NC State Baseball’s RHP Joey Devine reported for duty as a Myrtle Beach Pelican over Father’s Day weekend. Devine, NC State’s all-time saves leader and a first round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves, is the first No. 1 draft pick to begin his career at the Pelicans. Rounding out his connection with all Capitol Sports divisions, Devine played for the USA Baseball team in the Durham Bulls Athletic Park last summer.
Twenty-one-year-old Devine will begin play with the Myrtle Beach squad once the club makes the decision he is ready to pitch.
Devine spent three years playing for the Wolfpack, becoming the first reliever in ACC history to be named All-ACC three times in his career and setting the NC State record for most saves (36) and most appearances (84). He is the only reliever in Wolfpack history to record 10 or more saves in a season twice.
Originally from Junction City, Kansas, Devine was the 27th overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft in early June.
