Salty & Endl Shine In All-Star Game |
Pelicans C Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 1-2 and scored a run in the Carolina League All-Star game in Frederick, MD. |
Myrtle Beach was represented in the 2005 Carolina League / California League All-Star game by C Jarrod Saltalamacchia and LHP Brady Endl. The star-studded Birds helped the Carolina League All-Stars drill the California Leaguers 8-0 on Tuesday night, June 29th, in Maryland.
Eight different pitchers on the Carolina League’s roster pitched one inning each. Endl’s inning was the top of the 4th and he did not disappoint. The lefty from Jefferson, Wisconsin tossed a scoreless frame, gave up just one hit and struck out one in his All-Star outing.
Saltalamacchia, who finished the night 1-2 at the plate, ripped a two-out base hit to left field in the bottom of the 5th. Two batters later Lynchburg’s Bobby Kingsbury plated “Salty” with a single to right giving the Carolina League a 6-0 lead at the time.
The Carolina League was led by Frederick’s Nick Markakis who went 3-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Before the All-Star game even started, Markakis won the home run derby during the pre-game festivities, foreshadowing what he would accomplish later on. The Carolina League blasted out 17 hits to score their eight runs, while the California League was held to just four scattered hits against the Carolina League arms.
