“Real Men Wear Pink” – Pelicans Play For A Cure |
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans and A Cure In Our Lifetime are teaming up to help local breast cancer survivors by devoting an entire day at the ballpark. On Saturday, April 29, the Pelicans will host “Play For A Cure In Our Lifetime,” a fundraising opportunity for the grassroots organization by the same name. The group provides financial support to local men and women fighting breast cancer.
The day-long event will begin with a women’s baseball camp in the morning. Sponsored by Her Body & Soul, the 3rd Annual camp gives female fans a chance to take the field with Pelicans coaches and players to learn the finer points of the game.
That evening’s game will be entirely devoted to Play For A Cure In Our Lifetime. Pelican players will trade out their traditional teal and black uniforms and will instead wear unique pink baseball jerseys signifying the fight against breast cancer. The jerseys along with the players wearing them will be sponsored by local businesses and will be auctioned off during the game. A silent auction will take place during the game on the concourse for fans to purchase the jerseys.
Representatives from the cancer support group are excited to join the Pelicans in hosting this one-of-a-kind event.
“A Cure In Our Lifetime is ecstatic to team up with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for this fundraiser. It is the first event of this kind with our organization and we are thrilled about the community visibility they will bring us in assisting breast cancer survivors with their medical bills.” said Julie Bostian, Board Member and Publicity Director for A Cure In Our Lifetime.
This event will be one of the main fundraisers for A Cure In Our Lifetime in 2006.
