The Durham Bulls, in conjunction with the Triangle YMCA, have announced the venues for the Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run: the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball®.
The first round of competition will be held at the A.E. Finley YMCA in North Raleigh on Saturday, April 29th, with the finals taking place on Sunday, May 7th at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls take on the Indianapolis Indians at 5:00pm following the competition.
“We were honored to have Major League Baseball consider us for this event,” Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said. “I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for young athletes in the Triangle.”
This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills.
Competitors are divided into four age divisions:
and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including
- Team Championships at Major League ballparks and
- the National Finals at the 2006 MLB™ All-Star Game®.
The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded, then advance to the sectional level of competition.
