for Gimme the Mike
First Wild Card Announced
LeAnn Boone of Durham won Show 2 of Gimme the Mike to advance to the finals.
FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike aired its second installment on Wednesday, April 26th, and a second lucky singer has won a spot in the finale. LeAnn Boone of Durham captured the votes of the judges and will move on to compete as a finalist for the Gimme the Mike title.
Boone is currently working on her doctorate degree in Audiology from UNC Chapel Hill. The 27-year-old Richmond native earned her undergraduate degree from UNC as well, a music and Spanish double major. She currently sings in a local cover band called The Mighty Bash and performed in North Carolina Theatre’s production of the King & I in 2004 with Lou Diamond Phillips.
One of the other three contestants from the evening will get a second chance. After the show viewers could log on to the FOX 50 website and vote for their choice for a Wild Card to compete for a fifth spot in the finals on the Ultimate Wild Card show.
Bart Copeland is the first Wild Card contestant selected by viewers.
FOX 50 also announced the first Wild Card contestant during the show. Raleigh’s Bart Copeland lost out to Holland Marie for the judges pick during Show 1 but won the applause of the viewing audience. Fans voted online to send Copeland to the Wild Card show for a shot at being the Ultimate Wild Card and a second-chance slot in the finale.
A senior at Broughton High School, Copeland is a soccer player and sings in the Showchoir at school . He plans to attend UNC-Charlotte in the fall and major in Elementary Education.
What are they singing for?
This year’s grand prize includes a demo from Osceola Recording Studios, a performance on the side stage at Alltel Pavilion, the opportunity to open for a national act at the Longbranch Entertainment Complex, consultation with management firm Murphy to Manteo, and four tickets on Southwest Airlines anywhere they fly.
The Wild Card winner from Show 2 will be announced during FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike next week, Wednesday, May 3rd. Be sure to tune in at 7:30pm to watch the next four contestants go head to head for a shot at stardom.
The four judge’s picks and the Ultimate Wild Card winner will compete for the Gimme the Mike title in the live one-hour finale on Wednesday, May 24th at 7pm on FOX 50.
