The Catfish Classic ALS Golf Tournament takes place on October 16, 2006, at the Tournament Players Club at Wakefield Plantation. The second annual Catfish Classic, a charity golf event begun in 2005, funds research, patient services, and provides hope and support for families coping with ALS. ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), claimed the life of the tournament’s namesake, North Carolina’s own Jim “Catfish” Hunter.
Capitol Sports Vice President George Habel is on the board of the ALS Association – Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter.
