School is in and many needy Triangle children have the pencils, paper and materials they’ll need this school season thanks to WRAL viewers. The 2006 WRAL School Stuff Campaign, in partnership with Communities In Schools of NC, provided needed school supplies for more than 2,800 students in Wake, Durham, Orange, Moore, Wayne, Cumberland, Lee and Nash counties.
During the month of August, WRAL viewers brought new school supplies to various collection sites in the Triangle. After the campaign, Communities in Schools distributed the much needed materials to students in the eight different counties. This is the fifth year in a row that WRAL-TV and Communities in Schools have collaborated in the WRAL School Stuff Campaign.
“Overall the numbers were down this year from last year; however the spirit of giving was still abounding as evidenced in some areas like Rocky Mount, Durham and Moore County, all of which showed increases in the number of students served,” said WRAL-TV Community Relations Director Loretta Harper-Arnold. ‘Whenever a child who is unprepared for start of the school year receives something to give them a better start, I count it a success.”
Thanks to all WRAL viewers who generously gave to help many area kids have a better chance at succeeding in school and in life.
