CBC & WJZY Provide Funds to Purchase Books for New Charlotte Elementary School |
WJZY VP & General Manager Will Davis (l to r) presents a check for $1,250 to Highland Creek Elementary School to Highland Creek Elementary School Literacy Facilitator Rebecca Kavel & Principal Phyllis Baldwin with the help of former WRAL & WJZY employee Chuck Maye. |
Educators at Highland Creek Elementary School in northwest Charlotte will get new tools for teaching their students to love reading, thanks to a grant from Capitol Broadcasting Company and WJZY-TV.
Chuck Maye, a former CBC employee now semi-retired, alerted CBC to the need. Two of Chuck’s eight grandchildren attend the school and he is active in the PTA, which provided Highland Creek with $1,000.00 for reference books, novels and other teaching supplies.
CBC and WJZY combined forces to provide another $1,250.00 to supplement the PTA grant.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools supply baseline teaching materials for new schools but community organizations and business partnerships typically fund additional materials.
Thanks to WJZY’s Will Davis for this capcom story & photo.
