Wool E. Bull helps deliver education grants in prize patrol style at Eastway (top) & Lakewood elementary schools. |
|
Wool E. Bull went back to school this week. The Durham Bulls mascot played Ed McMahon as he helped the Durham Public Education Network stop by several Durham Public Schools to surprise teachers with grants.
McMahon better look out because both teachers and students alike were delighted by the furry mascot’s participation in the prize patrol. Ranging from $300 to $1,200, the grants were bestowed with a great deal of fun and fanfare.
A non-profit, the Durham Public Education Network handed out the grants as part of a teacher initiative which funds projects that the school system itself would not normally finance. The grants will give teachers a chance to branch out with some new & innovative ideas.
Most of the grants awarded went to fund programs to help students who are learning English as a second language, as well as their parents.
