According to WRAL.com, Crabtree was “honored for his work on the air and his commitment to community service.”

“David is a most deserving recipient of the Distinguished Service Award,” said WRAL-TV Vice President / General Manager Jim Hefner, who is also President Elect of the NCAB for 2007. “The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters not only cited his professional accomplishments in giving David this honor, but it also pointed out his extensive service to the community and his church.”

The award, established in 1973, was named after Earle Gluck who was instrumental in the development of the NCAB.
